- You just need a plan, some general rules (like, don’t let the conversation go silent for longer than 4 seconds; tilt your head toward people as you talk to them; point your feet toward them too; there’s a step-by-step guide for ending conversations too)
But–wait–should you awkwardly plan for awkwardness?
- Explicit monitoring theory tells us that focusing on details may help in skill-building but once you’ve learned those skills, you can think TOO hard about what you’re doing.
