Twelve rifles in room 135 of the Mandalay Bay Resort were modified with a “bump stock,” which is an attachment that can be bought online, for as little as $50, that enables a semiautomatic rifle to fire much, much faster.
- with it, the energy from the “kick” is used to push the trigger back into your finger, firing the rifle again
- so, while an automatic fires on and on with just one trigger pull, and a semi-automatic fires only once for each trigger pull, the bump stock makes the semi-automatic work like an automatic
- and, since the weapon is still not fully automatic it’s not banned.
