The below graphic created by the New York Times shows the average daily new cases per 100,000 people in the past week.

On August 26th, 1,193 new COVID-19 deaths and 44,934 new cases were reported in the US.

Schools in the midwest and south struggle with reopenings amid viral hotspots. In Georgia, where there remains significant community spread, class sizes have not been significantly reduced and mask wearing is optional.
