The perennial need to attract, keep and motivate talent has led companies to provide free food for employees, once seen as a perk reserved for squeezing out a few extra hours from overworked institutional bankers.
- While some companies provide their own product to employees (three free pints of Ben & Jerry’s is available to employees every day), others (like Facebook) bring in fresh cuisine and professional chefs for three, free meals a day.
- The practice has met with criticism as local businesses have worked toward banning free cafeterias in order to increase traffic to their restaurants.
