Photographer released from detention in Turkey

A French photographer was “detained” by Turkish polish after taking pics without a license. The authorities were right–Mathias Depardon WAS working without a license–because it had been revoked (by the people who had detained him).

President Erdogan (of Turkey) has a long history of restricting freedom of the press and detaining reporters. What made this photographer a target?

  • Depardon was photographing the Kurdish Worker Party, which led the government to believe that Depardon was spreading propaganda.
