Do teachers with guns make classrooms safer?

On March 13, a California teacher accidentally fired his handgun into the ceiling of his classroom. One student was hit by shrapnel and two others were struck with ceiling debris. None were seriously hurt.

This school district prohibits teachers from bringing guns on campus.

Same day, in Virginia, a school resource officer accidentally discharged his gun inside his office. No one was hurt.

President Trump pulled back on his promise to raise the age to purchase handguns because “not much political support,” as he tweeted. Instead, he wants to repeal the Gun-Free School Zone Act of 1990, which prohibits individuals from bringing firearms onto school campuses.
