President Trump’s poll numbers are up as he talks tough-on-crime at RNC

Days of President Trump’s tough-on-crime rhetoric at the Republican National Convention, while riots in Wisconsin intensify, are followed by a boost in national polling, to a narrowed Biden lead of 50%-43%.

Thousands of protesters have filled the streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin, following the shooting of Jacob Blake, who was partially paralyzed after a white officer fired seven shots into his back as he climbed into his car, fleeing arrest. Three of Mr. Blake’s children — 3 to 8 years old — were in the backseat.

Weapon-carrying counter-protesters converged on the city with the stated purpose of protecting property from looting. A white teenager illegally possessing an assault rifle was arrested following an altercation with demonstrators that left two protesters dead and one wounded.

Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old counter-protester, had social media accounts that indicated an intense interest guns, law enforcement and President Trump.
