Russian TV to produce its own version of Chernobyl

Russian TV has announced that it will create its own story about Chernobyl following the viral success of the US mini-series about the 1986 nuclear disaster.

The US mini-series highlights a nuclear disaster that is considered the worst in world history in terms of casualties and cost. It also looks at Russian national pride and how it got in the way during the crisis, as well as the role individuals played in the its management.

Despite the Russian governments attempts to ban the show from being broadcast, millions of people in the country are still streaming it, and local touring agencies have seen a 30-40% increase in visits to Pripyat, which is depicted in the series.

Recent reports on climate change have prompted a global search for carbon-free energy sources. Considering this, is it time to revisit nuclear power? Check out the debate here.
