You saw the video showing Philadelphia police asking two black men to leave Starbucks, and then arresting the men for trespassing, right?
Starbucks saw it, too.
- On May 29, Starbucks will close 8,000 stores for an afternoon of “racial-bias education” training.
- Recently, there’s a lot of talk about implicit bias in police officers, who may unconsciously allow bias to influence their actions and decisions, and there has been some effort at bias-training. While this afternoon of training for Starbucks employees may be a good first first step, it probably won’t eradicate the problem.
- NBC news reports that more than 400 studies have shown that current training techniques don’t consistently change behavior.
